Journalist Dean Jones believes Tottenham Hotspur might opt to steer clear of James Garner, amid links between the club and the 21-year-old.

Tottenham are said to be the latest Premier League side interested in luring Garner away from Old Trafford this summer, as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his attacking options.

Spurs have brought in seven new faces to the squad this summer, but Conte is seemingly not ready to stop there, as they have also been heavily linked with James Maddison and, more recently, Ruslan Malinovskyi over potential moves to the club.

Despite Spurs being linked with Garner this summer, Jones spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that he does not fit the profile Conte is looking for when recruiting a new midfielder, casting doubt over whether a move will happen.

He said: “I was always told that if they brought in a midfielder it would be someone who added undoubted quality and maybe even a bit of luxury to the squad and Garner would not really be under that umbrella for me.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Garner might be available for clubs to sign at a reduced price this summer, as he was not involved in the matchday squad against Liverpool on Monday night, and Erik ten Hag has opted to bring in Casemiro, so he may well have fallen even further down the pecking order.

However, Jones has claimed that Conte is looking for a midfielder with ‘undoubted quality’ this summer, and with Garner making just two appearances in the Premier League, he does not fall under that bracket.

Although, Bryan Gil is set to leave the club to join Valencia on loan, so Conte might be keen to get another midfielder through the door before the transfer window ends to ensure he has sufficient cover and isn’t left short deep into the season.
