Tottenham Hotspur may now look to land a winger on loan for the 2022/23 campaign with just a matter of days left in the summer window.

This has been suggested by reliable journalist David Ornstein, who has been speaking to NBC Sports about the latest transfer news from around the Premier League.

It is now believed Bryan Gil is set to depart north London – again – for a loan move to Spanish side Valencia for the remainder of the campaign.

And there have been links to Leeds United’s Daniel James recently, as well as a long-standing interest in Wolves winger Adama Traore.

Despite having added Richarlison to their frontline, Antonio Conte has made it clear departing players will need to be replaced this late in the window – and it seems a new winger is high on the agenda.

Ornstein said: “Tottenham may sign a player on loan for the wing positions, but nothing quite developing yet on that front.”

TIF Thoughts on Ornstein’s comments…

This is promising for Spurs in the sense Conte is not willing to let players depart before having their replacements through the door, and given it is so late in the window, this is key.

Although Gil has only been used as a squad player so far this season, if Spurs allowed him to go and were then unable to replace him, it would leave them in a tricky spot with so many games coming up.

What we are slightly concerned about are the links to the likes of James from Leeds. Going by his numbers in the Premier League he would technically be an upgrade on Gil, but we do not believe he is a player who will add much to the Tottenham squad, having failed to show any consistency in attack during his spells at Elland Road and Manchester United.
