Tottenham Hotspur are now confident of wrapping up a deal for Udinese left wing-back Destiny Udogie.

This is according to reliable Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold, who has been discussing a potential move for the 19-year-old on his latest YouTube video.

Spurs got their 2022/23 Premier League campaign up and running in style on Saturday with an impressive 4-1 victory over Southampton at home.

And perhaps current left wing-back Ryan Sessegnon had heard about the potential signing of Udogie, as the Englishman put on a show in N17 which saw him score Tottenham’s first goal.

Despite having already brought in one left wing-back this summer in Ivan Perisic, Gold now believes another is on the cusp of putting pen to paper to become a Spurs player in the coming days.

He said: “There is going to be another [left wing-back]. It comes in the shape of 19-year-old Destiny Udogie, one of the best names ever in football. It is his destiny to come to Tottenham.

“Udinese left wing-back; I understand that Spurs are confident that that deal is going to be tied up in the next few days. I think we’re talking about roughly £22m – that includes add-ons as well. But, he will go back on loan to Udinese.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

This is a really interesting move from Spurs if they are able to get it over the line given they currently have two players in that position who are fighting it out for the starting spot in Conte’s XI.

It is believed Udogie will return to Udinese for the 2022/23 campaign on loan, but if he did return to Spurs next summer, it would likely leave three players fighting it out for the starting spot.

This is obviously a good headache for Conte to have, however, the same situation is currently happening at right wing-back and there are reports of Spurs looking to offload one in the coming weeks.

But it is apparent why Fabio Paratici and Conte want this player in north London given he was only beaten for goal involvements among full/wing-backs in last season’s Serie A by Spurs summer signing Perisic since the turn of the year.
