Tottenham Hotspur have held conversations over the last week about the possibility of signing Daniel James.

This is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking about the future of the Welshman on his Here We Go podcast.

Spurs are looking to find themselves a replacement for Bryan Gil, who now has a loan move lined up to re-join Valencia for the 2022/23 campaign.

Although Spurs have had a busy transfer window, they have not brought in a winger, with Richarlison the only forward player signed to date.

However, Romano does not believe Leeds United are open to allowing the 24-year-0ld to leave this summer with just a couple of days remaining in the window.

He said: “Bryan Gil is done with Valencia – straight loan, no buy option. But they need to find a replacement, and so Spurs are exploring the market to understand if they can find a player in that position.

“Daniel James, there was a conversation with Leeds last week – Thursday, Friday – to understand about a potential loan with buy option deal, but Leeds want to keep the player, the player is happy at Leeds, so at the moment it’s not something proceeding for Dan James. Let’s see what happens with other players.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

We do think it is important that Spurs find a replacement for Gil if they loan him out once again, but it seems as if they won’t allow the Spaniard to leave first.

And this has been demonstrated with young midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, whose exit has been scrapped following the injury to Rodrigo Bentancur at the weekend.

There have been links to the likes of Adama Traore again this summer, and we think that with just one year remaining on his deal at Wolves, he could provide Spurs with a realistic option.

The Spaniard is a player who Fabio Paratici reportedly loves and it is apparent he is not in the immediate plans of Bruno Lage having not started a league game this season, so there are plenty of alternatives to James.
