Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil could still potentially remain in north London this summer, with a spot for him in Antonio Conte’s squad more likely compared to Pape Matar Sarr.
This has been suggested by reliable Spurs correspondent Jack Pitt-Brooke, who has been speaking on the Doctor Tottenham YouTube channel.
Spurs made an electric start to their 2022/23 campaign at the weekend against Southampton and there was even a spot on the bench for the Spanish winger.
There has been a lot of speculation already this summer surrounding the future of the 21-year-old, with another loan move away from north London reported as a possibility.
Gil did not make it off the bench at the weekend, but it did mark his return to the squad, having spent the second half of last season out on loan in Spain.
But Pitt-Brooke does feel if Spurs do not bring in another attacking player in the window, he would not be overly surprised to see the Spaniard remain at the club.
He said: “I think it’s probably more likely they’ll keep Gil and loan Sarr, just because Bryan Gil’s probably a year or two older, a bit more experienced, has played at a higher level than Sarr.
“So maybe they think another good season in France or perhaps the Championship and a good season in English football is what he [Sarr] would need next.
“Whereas Bryan Gil, they might think, well, if we don’t get in another attacking player – because the attacking player that they would get would probably not look that different from Bryan Gil; probably be somebody who can maybe play in the front three and as a creative midfielder – then maybe he would stay and Sarr would go out on loan.”

It was certainly interesting to see Gil make the bench at the weekend despite the reports surrounding where his future may lie in the coming weeks.

Sarr also played a number of minutes over the pre-season tour, and despite injury concerns over Yves Bissouma, there was still no spot for the Senegalese midfielder.
Although reports still suggest a move could be on the cards for Gil, it seems – as Pitt-Brooke suggests – he has more of a chance in Conte’s squad this season than the 19-year-old prospect.
