After securing six signings so far, Tottenham Hotspur are now looking to bring in another wing-back in Udinese’s Destiny Udogie, it has been claimed.
The wing-back position has been a targeted area of improvement for Antonio Conte’s side, with Emerson Royal failing to impress, Sergio Reguilon becoming surplus to requirements and Matt Doherty recovering from injury.
So far this summer, Spurs have addressed this issue with the recruitment of Croatia international Ivan Perisic and young starlet Djed Spence from Middlesbrough, however, it appears they are not stopping there.
Udogie, from Serie A side Udinese, is now a target for the north London side as the 19-year 0ld has impressed in the Italian top flight and could also be a target for other teams in Europe.
Noted insider ExWHUemployee stated on The Transfer Show: “Tottenham are opening the talks to sign Destiny Udogie, who’s a left-back at Udinese, for a loan deal potentially. That’s something that other clubs are monitoring as well.”
TIF Thoughts on Udogie to Spurs…
We believe the young Italian defender would be a great signing for Spurs as he is young and can be moulded by Conte into his vision of a wing-back and can be a starting figure for the side in the Premier League for years to come.
He impressed last season for Udinese with 37 appearances across all competitions while picking up five goals and three assists, as well as averaging 1.8 tackles per game – which would rank third among defenders for Spurs last season – and 1.1 dribbles per game, which would rank sixth among Spurs players who featured more than 10 times last term.
It is hard to say whether he would be able to come in and have an instant impact on the side, but being able to work under an elite manager like Conte and with experienced players like Perisic, it makes sense for Spurs to take the risk and develop Udogie into their ideal wing-back for the long term.
Should Spurs sign Udogie?
