According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Tottenham Hotspur have scouted centre-back Max Kilman this summer as they look to bolster their options – but they have not made a move for the player.
Spurs have wanted to bolster their centre-back options this summer and have already bought in Clement Lenglet and been linked with the likes of Alessandro Bastoni and his Inter teammate Milan Skriniar.
However, Jacobs has revealed the north London club have previously scouted a player closer to home in Kilman, who impressed last season at Wolves, though he insists they have not yet made an enquiry to bring the player in.
Discussing potential centre-back targets, Jacobs told the Last Word on Spurs podcast: “Tottenham have also, by the way, scouted Max Kilman historically, which is more of a domestic option. They’ve not made any kind of move over the course of this summer – interesting again to see whether that changes; I don’t think that Wolves would like to sell.”

Interestingly, Kilman did pick up Sky Sports’ Man of the Match award after shutting out Tottenham earlier in 2022. Micah Richards also praised him for his ‘all-round’ display against Southampton.
So far this summer, Spurs have spent over £90m according to Transfermarkt, and while they have a huge budget to spend this summer, bringing in a player like Kilman – who was thought to be worth around £40m last season – could perhaps be a cheaper option than Bastoni or Skriniar.
Last season, Kilman impressed at Wolves, who ranked fifth for goals conceded last season, as he made 30 appearances in the Premier League and also showed his attacking qualities, by ranking in the 88th percentile for dribbles completed and 83rd for progressive carries per game compared to other centre-backs in Europe’s top five leagues.
It could be difficult for Spurs to bring in Kilman, if Wolves remain uninterested in selling the 25-year-old as Jacobs suggests, but considering Wolves’ terrible transfer business so far – only bringing in Nathan Collins – could this tempt them into a sale if the price is right and they can use it to reinvest? It may seem a longshot at present, but only time will tell.
