Dharmesh Sheth says that Roma could yet be persuaded to sell Nicolo Zaniolo this summer amid interest from Tottenham.

Spurs have been linked with a move for the Roma ace in recent weeks, however the Serie A outfit are thought to have been left frustrated by the Lilywhites’ offer of a season-long loan with an obligation to buy for just €25m with €10 in add-ons.

The Italian side are seeking €50m (£49.2m) for the player who Antonio Conte feels capable of operating in a wing-back role but they are wary of back-to-back ACL injuries hence the low offer.

Journalist Ben Jacobs seems to think a move now looks unlikely but Sheth isn’t closing the door just yet.

Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs he said:

(26:04)”I mean there is an interest from Tottenham.

“Tottenham do like the player I think there would be a gap in valuation between what Tottenham are prepared to pay for Zaniolo and what Roma would want and we think Roma want in excess of 50 or 60 million for him and Jose Mourinho sees him as part of his plans.

“They don’t want to sell someone like Zaniolo but again money talks and you know what? Roma, they’re not getting the riches that Premier League clubs do get so if Tottenham were to chance their arm again, who knows.

“But as it stands, the gap in valuation seems to be a bit too much but definitely an interest there from Tottenham.”

TIF Thoughts on Zaniolo and Spurs…

Do you want Spurs to sign Zaniolo?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

The 23-year-old has previously been dubbed a ‘lethal playmaker’ by journalist Zach Lowry and he delivered eight goals and nine assists last season making him a very intriguing proposition for Tottenham.

Considering Daniel Levy sanctioned a £60m move for Richarlison who won’t be a first-choice starter it doesn’t seem too far removed to think that the chairman would agree to meet close to Roma’s demands at least.

However, the major deterrent does seem to be his horrible injury record and that could very well scupper a move at the desired asking price.
