Ryan Taylor of the Daily Express has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur ‘will look at’ AS Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo this summer.

The Roma midfielder, who has been called a ‘beast’, made 42 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring eight goals, and assisting a further nine in what was an impressive campaign. Since the fall off and then departure of Dele Alli, Spurs have lacked a goalscoring midfielder. That is a problem that Zaniolo could solve.

According to Taylor, Spurs will look at the Italian. The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Nicolo Zaniolo is another one that they will look at. But as far as a bid for Maddison’s concerned, it could happen but there’s nothing at the moment to suggest that it’s going to materialise.”

So, whilst it seems that Maddison is unlikely to become Spurs player anytime soon, Zaniolo may end up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. As per Ben Jacobs, however, the North London club believe that Roma’s £50 million valuation for the player is £10 million too high, potentially preventing a straight forward deal.

TIF Thoughts on Taylor’s comments…

With under a month to go until the summer window slams shut, Spurs will have to do more than just look at Zaniolo if they want to make the midfielder a Premier League player.

Meanwhile, Taylor’s comments regarding Maddison are also disappointing, with his Leicester stay looking likely after the Foxes rejected a £40 million bid for the midfielder, according to Sky Sports.

A player of Zaniolo’s calibre would certainly add a much-needed goal contributor to the current Spurs side, that’s for sure. The Italian’s offensive prowess is something that both Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma lack in Antonio Conte’s current midfield.

Last season, according to WhoScored, Bentancur made 0.6 key passes per-90 in the Serie A, whilst Bissouma made 0.3 in the Premier League. In contrast, Zaniolo made one key pass per-90 for Roma.
