Journalist Ryan Taylor has claimed that Southampton are looking to bring in another striker to the club before the summer transfer window ends.

Southampton lost Shane Long this summer and Armando Broja left following his loan spell, so they are a club with just two striking options at present in Che Adams and Adam Armstrong, with the former being linked with a move away from the club.

According to The Sun, the Saints attempted to sign Liam Delap, but Manchester City were not keen on letting the young forward leave the club permanently. Meanwhile, Stoke City are the latest side interested in him.

With Broja spending time on loan at St Mary’s last season, Taylor spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that they are not actively seeking a return to the south coast for the Albanian this summer – but they are continuing to look for another forward.

He said: “They’re looking for another striker. Broja is not one they’re actively pursuing, there was a £16m bid for Liam Delap from Manchester City, but they don’t want to sell permanently.”

TIF Thoughts on Taylor’s comments…

Southampton lost 4-1 in their opening game of the season against a strong Tottenham Hotspur side as Armstrong led the line, but he was taken off at half-time, and given he scored just two goals last term for the Saints, it is no surprise that Ralph Hasenhuttl wants to bring in another forward.

If Adams does part ways with the club – with both Nottingham Forest and Leeds United showing interest in him – it would be a disaster if they did not bring in another striker, but the Austrian manager might be keen to get someone through the door on a permanent deal so they can stay at the club for a period of time.

Lyon’s Moussa Dembele has been a name linked with a move to Southampton this summer, so it will be interesting to see if they really push to get a deal over the line before the summer transfer window ends.
