Nottingham Forest are definitely interested in a potential deal for the Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar in these final weeks of the window.

This is according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, who has been discussing Forest’s plans for the remainder of the window on the Transfer Talk podcast.

Aouar had a difficult spell in the 2021/22 campaign, where he went on a run of 19 Ligue 1 games where he was only able to rack up one assist (via Transfermarkt).

However, he did end the campaign with six goals and four assists in the league, so there are definitely still promising signs coming from the 24-year-old despite a difficult spell during the middle of the season.

Sheth believes the newly promoted side have made an official approach for Aouar now as they look to add to what has been a quite unbelievable transfer window.

Speaking earlier this week prior to reports the Reds had agreed a big-money deal for Wolves’ Morgan Gibbs-White, Sheth said: “Just when these names keep coming up – when you think nothing’s going to surprise you about Nottingham Forest, they go ahead and surprise you again.

“Forest definitely interested in Houssem Aouar. They’ve made an initial approach with Lyon for a player who’s entered the final year of his contract. Sky Italy are actually reporting that deal for Houssem Aouar is actually quite close.”

TIF Thoughts on Sheth’s comments…

This is perhaps the most surprising of all the transfer deals Forest have been linked with this summer, given just how highly rated Aouar has been in recent years.

Have Forest signed too many players this summer?

It was just 12 months ago that the French midfielder was being heavily linked with a potential move to Arsenal, with the Gunners said to have made an initial approach.

Perhaps this is a sign of his struggles last season, however, had you said Forest would be serious contenders to land Aouar just a few months ago, many would have laughed at the thought of it.
