Journalist Keith Downie has claimed that Newcastle United will add at least two more summer signings before the end of the transfer window.

Newcastle have made three signings so far, and one of those was Matt Targett, who spent the second half of last season at the club on loan.

It has been a good start to the 2022/23 Premier League season for Newcastle, as they have picked up four points from a possible six, but with the three players Eddie Howe has opted to bring in all being defensive options, he might be keen to bolster his attack with his next addition.

With Newcastle arguably having a somewhat underwhelming transfer window so far given their riches, Downie spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that he expects them to make two more additions before the transfer window shuts.

He said: “I just wouldn’t worry about it too much because I think that the decisions that are getting made at the top end of the club are decisions that get made for the future of the football club.

“They’re not just being made to get them through the next six months, which was a bit like what January was, where they were just trying to stay safe. This is with a long-term view and the future of the club in mind, so I wouldn’t be worried about it too much, but I do still think they will add at least two more before the end of the window.”

TIF Thoughts on Bridge’s comments…

Newcastle were on the brink of signing Hugo Ekitike earlier in the summer, but issues with his agent caused the deal to break down, while they have submitted two bids for James Maddison, so Howe is clearly keen to bolster his attacking options before the transfer window shuts.

However, it might not be the end of the world for Howe if he did not bring in another attacker before the window closes, because they have looked good in the opening two fixtures of the season, so he might not want to rush or panic by bringing in a player who might not be suited to the way he wishes to play.

That said, perhaps their failure to hit the back of the net on Saturday will just heighten the anxiety of the fans as we near the deadline.
