The Athletic’s George Caulkin has been speaking on Pod on the Tyne about what people at the top of the club have told him about Newcastle United’s transfer stance and confidence.

It’s fair enough that some Newcastle fans may well be worried about their club’s lack of activity in the transfer market since the arrival of Sven Botman on 1st July, with no attacking reinforcements having joined thus far.

That could be about to change, though, with Sky Sports reporter Pete Graves confirming that Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos, who scored against Newcastle in a pre-season friendly earlier in the summer, is a player that is on the club’s transfer shortlist.

Meanwhile, according to Caulkin, despite the lack of signings in recent weeks, people within the club are confident and happy with their recruitment and how they have gone about their business, and that more players will arrive.

“I did also, last week, after we did the podcast, have an interaction with someone at the top of the club, just about where things stood just in very sort of general terms, and there was that feeling of positivity that they’re heading in the right direction.

“Acknowledgement that they were maybe one, possibly two players short, but there was still time in the window, it’s a tough window for good players, for great players, and there’s that feeling that things could still shake loose and, not a plea for patience, but just that sense of, ‘we’ll get there’.

Are you happy with PIF as owners?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“So, as far as I’m concerned, they deserve that patience, and I think they will get there.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s current position…

Of course, transfers are at the forefront of everyone’s minds during the summer, and while Newcastle are still lacking new arrivals in the attacking third, that will always continue to be the case, but with PIF, the long-term objective will always be the most important thing.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

The new owners seem to be in this for the long haul given how much money was spent in January and then once again this summer – not only on players, but also with the new training ground currently under development and the women’s team set to receive a large injection of funding.

So while some fans may be concerned by what’s happening in the transfer market, if they take a step back and look at the bigger picture, and compare it to where they were 12 months ago under Mike Ashley – when they were struggling to afford a loan fee for Hamza Choudhury – it’s night and day.
