Newcastle United have been hit with another transfer blow in their search for a new striker this summer, with Timo Werner not thought to be interested in a move to Tyneside.
This has been suggested by insider Dean Jones, who has been speaking on The Done Deal Show to discuss the future of the German forward.
Dan Ashworth is experiencing some issues in trying to find a new striker for Newcastle, with the Magpies said to be aiming to refresh their frontline with a striker and a right-winger.
And it seems their reported interest in the Chelsea striker may also fall short, with the German eyeing a move from Stamford Bridge – but not to St James’ Park.
Jones said: “I know that there is a situation with Werner whereby he obviously wants to go. Newcastle are interested in Timo Werner; he’s not especially interested in joining Newcastle. I think he would rather go abroad, from what I hear.”
TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…
This will no doubt come as a major blow as signing a striker has been described as the ‘priority’ for Newcastle, with Keith Downie revealing recently just how difficult it is to find a striker for a good price on the transfer market.
These comments may receive a mixed response from Newcastle fans, who will surely be hoping to see Eddie Howe’s options improved over the coming weeks.
Would you want to give Werner a chance at NUFC?
However, it is apparent Werner has had his issues during his time at Chelsea, with just 10 Premier League goals for the Blues in 56 appearances (via Transfermarkt).
In the same breath, Werner could also provide Howe with an option from the wing, but it seems the German could now be headed for a return to RB Leipzig.
