Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Newcastle United are ‘definitely going to sign a striker’ before the summer transfer window ends.
Newcastle have been on the hunt for a new striker throughout the transfer window and were on the verge of signing Hugo Ekitike, but for issues with the player’s agent meaning that the deal failed to go through.
Armando Broja is thought to be a player on Newcastle’s shortlist, but Chelsea are seemingly short in that area of the pitch at present, especially as Timo Werner has recently signed for RB Leipzig.
With the Magpies yet to sign a striker this summer, Jones spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that they will bring in a new forward before the end of the transfer window, despite being unsuccessful in their pursuits so far.
He said: “It’s tough with Broja because Chelsea haven’t got any depth at the moment, they need him, and they can’t let him out.
“So it’s a bit frustrating for clubs that are interested in him. I mean, Newcastle are definitely going to sign a striker, I’m not in really any doubt about that.”

This is a pretty bold claim from Jones, as his confidence should offer a lot of encouragement to the Newcastle faithful, who have seen their side fail to bring in an attacking addition this summer.
After fairly understandably pulling the plug on the Ekitike deal, you would be forgiven for wondering why they haven’t been able to put a Plan B into action, with their pursuit of the 20-year-old ending way back in June.
Eddie Howe has clearly been active in terms of searching for a striker to challenge for Callum Wilson’s starting slot, with rumours linking them to the likes of Broja and Dominic Calvert-Lewin – while the Magpies are thought to be preparing a move for Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos.
So judging by Jones’ comments, it seems it is just a matter of time before something develops. Therefore, it appears supporters can rest easy that the situation is under control despite their fruitless attempts to find that elusive striker thus far.
