According to journalist Ross Gregory, Newcastle United could still be in for Armando Broja this summer despite Thomas Tuchel’s desire to keep the striker at his current club.

One of the biggest sagas of the summer transfer window so far has revolved around the possible departure of Broja, as several Premier League clubs have shown interest in the Albanian.

However, despite Chelsea’s reluctance to sell, Gregory believes Newcastle could still bring the youngster to Tyneside this summer once the season starts and Broja knows where he stands in the Blues first team.

Speaking on NUFC Matters, Gregory said: “Broja’s the one I think that there could still be some movement on between now and the end of the window, once the Chelsea season starts, he sees where he fits into [Chelsea’s] forward options and he realises, ‘actually, I might not be getting a sniff here’. I think there could be another loan deal late on in the window for Broja.”

TIF Thoughts on Broja to Newcastle…

It is understandable why Chelsea are not willing to let Broja – who has been called a ‘top, top player’ by Gabriel Agbonlahor – go on a permanent deal this summer, or at least before the start of the season and got their incomings sorted. They are short in his position with Romelu Lukaku now back at Inter and rumours of Timo Werner – whom Newcastle are also reportedly interested in – being up for sale.

However, Newcastle need to bring in a striker who can back up and compete with Callum Wilson and Chris Wood while being a feasible asset for future seasons. Broja could be this man as he impressed last season in his maiden Premier League campaign for Southampton, picking up nine goals in all competitions for the Saints.

It is currently unknown where he fits in at Chelsea, and Newcastle need a new striker. The Magpies also have the money to get the player, which could be used by Chelsea to bring in someone they want in that position. If he doesn’t fit into Tuchel’s plans when the season starts, there is no reason why Newcastle can’t place themselves as the frontrunners for his services and secure a move before the transfer deadline.
