Newcastle United are still expected to bring in another two signings this summer, with just a matter of weeks remaining until the window closes.

This has been suggested by journalist Ben Jacobs, who has been speaking about the Toon’s transfer plans on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel.

It has been a slow summer of transfer additions on Tyneside with just two new faces on board to date, as well as the return of former loanee Matt Targett (via Transfermarkt).

There have already been comments from Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, who has admitted he had expected more additions this summer as the Magpies reportedly look to bolster their attacking options.

After a bright start to the campaign for the Toon, Jacobs was able to provide fans with further cause for optimism, as new faces are expected to come through the doors.

He said: “Newcastle want two – a creative-minded player, like a James Maddison, maybe a winger, maybe a No 10, maybe even an attacking midfielder that can kind of filter into wider areas.

“And then they obviously need a striker as well. So two buys or one buy and one loan, I think will absolutely happen.”

TIF Thoughts on Jacobs’ comments…

We think Howe currently has some good attacking options at his disposal, however, we are equally aware that these options can quickly be taken away from him with the injury-proneness of Callum Wilson, for example.

What this has meant for Newcastle is that for any new faces that come through the doors on Tyneside, there will likely be a slow introduction into the side.

Bruno Guimaraes was slowly brought into Howe’s XI earlier this year and the same seems to be the case for Sven Botman, who started on the bench on Saturday.

So if new faces are to come through the door, it feels unlikely those players will provide an immediate impact in Howe’s starting XI – but it is nevertheless promising that multiple arrivals are expected before the deadline.
