Allan Saint-Maximin has taken to Instagram to send out a strong message after his superb display on Sunday for Newcastle United.

The French winger was in red-hot form during Newcastle’s scintillating 3-3 draw with the Premier League champions, managing to register two assists and win the free-kick for Kieran Trippier’s strike.

Saint-Maximin was awarded the Player of the Match award, with Eddie Howe also claiming it was the best performance he’s seen from the winger since being appointed as manager last year, although the Frenchman seemingly isn’t happy with this praise alone.

Taking to Instagram, Saint-Maximin has insisted that he’s now fully focused on earning a spot in Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad later this year, as he said:

Is Saint-Maximin Newcastle's best player?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“Only 1 thing in my mind, the World Cup. The support was amazing. We keep building.”

TIF Thoughts on Saint-Maximin…

Against Manchester City, Saint-Maximin was pretty much unstoppable as the champions turned to fouling the winger – something they did on three separate occasions and couldn’t get anywhere near him in the build-up to the second goal.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

In his player ratings, Lee Ryder handed out a rare 10/10 to Saint-Maximin such was his top performance, in a game that really will have made a lot of people sit up and take notice of Saint-Maximin and Newcastle under Eddie Howe.

Having yet to make his senior international debut, it would be some effort for Saint-Maximin to earn a Les Bleus call-up by this winter’s World Cup, but displays like this will surely at least put him in the running for a place on the plane.
