Newcastle United: Downie expects two more signings

|

Newcastle United could still bring two new faces to St James’ Park by the end of the transfer window.

That is according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, who was speaking to GiveMeSport about the club’s potential transfer plans this season.

Eddie Howe has welcomed two new faces to the club this season in Lille’s Sven Botman and Burnley’s Nick Pope, as well as making Matt Targett’s loan move from Aston Villa a permanent deal this summer.

The club’s biggest transfer saga this summer is arguably that of their pursuit of Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison, with the Foxes turning down a reported bid of over £40m from Newcastle this summer, as the east Midlands side look for closer to £60m.

And Downie believes that Howe could see two more new faces through the door at St James’ Park before the window’s closure in September, with at least one of them being a loan move.

He said: “Whether it’s a permanent deal or a loan, we’ll have to wait and see.

“I’ve been saying this all window long, but I still fully expect them to bring in a striker and a winger before the window’s out.

“I would be amazed if both of them are permanent signings, unless they’re able to keep the prices down.

“I still would expect one to be permanent and one to be a loan.”

TIF Thoughts on Downie’s comments…

We believe that Newcastle fans will be relieved to hear that there should be at least two more faces through the door by the end of the window, with the club being frustrated in their pursuit for signings this summer.

With links to players such as Leicester’s Harvey Barnes and Everton’s Anthony Gordon, it would seem that the Tyneside club are looking for attacking reinforcements this summer.

Therefore, we believe that the owners should provide Howe with the funds that he needs to invest in the squad so that the former Bournemouth manager can build a team in his mould.
