Newcastle United are expected to be busy on transfer deadline day as the transfer window closes on the 1st September.

That is according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the Magpies’ potential transfer business during the final weeks of the window.

Newcastle have made four permanent additions to the side so far this summer, with Real Sociedad and Sweden’s Alexander Isak, Lille’s Sven Botman, Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope, and former loanee Matt Targett making the permanent switch from Aston Villa.

The club have their sights set on plenty of other targets heading into the final week of the window, including Leeds United winger Jack Harrison.

And Downie believes that the club will be active on deadline day on Thursday, with the journalist having asked head coach Eddie Howe directly about whether he expects the club to make moves on the final day of the summer transfer window.

“I asked Eddie Howe that direct question at the press conference just a couple of hours ago and he gave me a one-word answer.

“And that was yes.

“So, I have to take his word for it.

“He expects them to be active, he expects to bring players in.”

TIF Thoughts on Downie’s comments

We believe that Newcastle fans will have mixed feelings about Downie’s update regarding when the club may be conducting their business.

In an ideal world, we’re sure that fans of the Tyneside club would prefer for the club to have all of their business sewn up ahead of the final day of the window, which usually consists of rush and panic buys.

However, Howe’s response also demonstrates a clear message that the Magpies are willing to go right to the wire to bring in additions to the club, and therefore we believe Newcastle fans will feel like they simply have to trust PIF to get signings over the line.
