Newcastle United are struggling to find a striker in the ‘mould’ that they are looking for.

That’s according to Sky Sports News reporter Keith Downie, who was speaking amid the Toon’s continued search for a centre-forward.

Eddie Howe is yet to bolster his attack this summer, but journalist Luke Edwards has tipped the club to make a ‘big splurge’ before the transfer window closes.

Armando Broja has been heavily linked with a move to Tyneside, while RB Salzburg hotshot Benjamin Sesko is also on the radar.

However, light has now been shed on their pursuit for a major arrival at the top end of the pitch.

Downie told GiveMeSport: “There are very few strikers out there available in the mould that they are looking for. I spoke to a few different agents and people involved in trying to do deals with strikers in this window and there are just so few out there.”

Are you worried by Newcastle's business?

Yes!

No!

No!

Transfer guru Dean Jones has previously claimed that the north-east club are still aiming to bring in a centre-midfielder, a centre-forward and a wide player, but while Timo Werner – of whom they are interestedwould fill their desires going forward, it would appear that the Magpies are seeking a younger striker, having heavily pursued 20-year-olf French starlet Hugo Ekitike.

However, if their struggles continue to find the appropriate piece of the jigsaw, it could force them down a different route and we could see a major name for the here and now arrive at St James’ Park late in the window.
