Journalist Luke Edwards has hinted that Martin Dubravka could form part of Newcastle United’s bid to land James Maddison.

The Magpies made an ‘unexpected’ £40m move for the midfielder over the weekend, and after their initial bid was rebuffed, they made a second attempt.

Despite ‘conflicting views’, Sky Sports News reporter Keith Downie claimed that the second attempt included a fee of around £40m with some add-ons – and again their efforts were rejected.

However, Edwards has now claimed that Martin Dubravka could add ‘another layer’ to this transfer.

Speaking on the BBC’s Transfer Gossip Daily podcast on Tuesday, he said: “There is, however, a rumour that Leicester might be interested in the Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, which might add another layer to this story in the next 24/48 hours.”

TIF Thoughts on Dubravka and Newcastle…

Should Newcastle sell Dubravka?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Dubravka has made 130 appearances for the Toon and was the club’s No 1 last term, making 26 starts in the Premier League having missed the start of the campaign through injury.

However, the £10m arrival of Nick Pope has cast doubt over his role in the side. At 33, you would suspect the 30-cap Slovakia ace would be hoping to play regularly, and that opportunity could be afforded to him at the King Power Stadium.

Kasper Schmeichel looks set for a move to Nice in Ligue 1, leaving the No 1 spot at Leicester City vacant.

And as pointed out by reporter Lyall Thomas, there could be some ‘outgoings’ at the Foxes over the next month, which perhaps suggests that a deal can be struck that suits all parties before the end of the transfer window.
