A move for Newcastle United to sign top summer target Lucas Paqueta is still on for the club and is ‘bubbling away’ in the background, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.
The Tyneside club have been linked to the Brazil international since the beginning of the summer, but despite his friendship with their star man Bruno Guimaraes, Newcastle have failed to secure a deal so far.
However, fans will be delighted to hear that according to Bailey, a deal for Paqueta is currently ‘bubbling away’ in the background and is very doable before the window slams shut on 1st September.
Bailey told the Loaded Mag NUFC YouTube channel: “Newcastle like Paqueta, they’ve held talks, they think they can get him to a certain extent.
“They do like him, and he’s a top-quality performer – why wouldn’t they? And he’s in a position they like, he’s got recommendations, obviously from Bruno coming out their ears, and people who did the Bruno deal are involved in Paqueta as well. So it is doable, it really is. And we have to keep an eye on him. That’s the one that is bubbling away.”

Newcastle are set to be very busy in the latter stages of the window as they have been linked with a move for numerous Chelsea outcasts on loan and have also agreed a deal with Real Sociedad for Alexander Isak for around £60m.
This means any expensive deal could be difficult to get through the door with the looming threat of Financial Fair Play, but it was recently claimed by Media Foot that Lyon had slashed their asking price for Paqueta from £55m to £35m, which would certainly help the Magpies bring him in.
Adding a player like Paqueta to their ranks along with Isak and one of the Chelsea players could thrust Newcastle into the conversation for a European spot earlier than expected. Day by day, they are becoming more exciting, so we will have to see if they splash the cash with just over a week left in the window.
