Newcastle United: Romano claims club will submit new Joao Pedro bid

|

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United will look to submit another bid for Joao Pedro after their latest bid was rejected.

A new striker has been at the top of the list for the Magpies throughout the summer market, and after missing out on Hugo Ekitike, it looks like they have found their man in Pedro, but will need to do more work as their second bid was reportedly rejected – although the club are thought to have refuted those claims.

However, Romano has revealed that the club will be looking to offer an improved bid, which should hopefully get a deal over the line before the end of the window.

Speaking on Thursday, Romano said: “Work in progress for Joao Pedro from Watford. There will be a new proposal, so Newcastle not just this topic of Bruno Guimaraes, but also working on Joao Pedro, the Brazilian striker after a new bid – £22m plus £3m in add-ons – turned down by Watford; they will be back.

“Newcastle will be back, and so negotiations ongoing for Joao Pedro.”

TIF Thoughts on Joao Pedro to Newcastle…

It is no secret that Newcastle could do with rejuvenating their striker position as current stars Callum Wilson and Chris Wood are both 30, and the former has suffered numerous injuries over the last few seasons.

However, considering Joao Pedro’s recent performances in the Premier League, it is hard to see how he would make an immediate impact for the Magpies, considering last season he managed to pick up just three goals and one assist in 28 appearances in the top flight, albeit for a struggling Watford side.

Luckily, he is just 20 years old and therefore has a lot of time to develop and improve his game under manager Eddie Howe, but it is looking like they will have to pay over £25m to bring him in, which is arguably far too much of a risk judging by his current ability.
