Newcastle United will sign a striker and a right sided attacker before the transfer window closes this summer.

That is according to Dean Jones, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the Magpies’ potential transfer business heading into the final few weeks of the window.

Eddie Howe has been provided with three permanent signings at St. James’ Park so far this summer, but it’s thought that the club are looking at making more additions before the transfer window is out.

Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison has been linked with a move to Tyneside this summer, and the Magpies have had a reported bid of over £40m turned down for the 25-year-old this summer, with the Foxes valuing him at £60m.

And Jones believes that Howe will be looking for two attacking players this summer, before the window shuts on 1st September.

“They’re definitely looking at alternatives [to Moussa Diaby], as I say James Maddison is one of them, even though it doesn’t seem like that’s what we’re looking at there.

“You think it’s a totally different position, but it’s not actually.

“But yeah, we’re going to see Newcastle sign a striker, and a right sided attacker basically.

“Their budget, I’m told won’t be more than £70m for those two positions.

“They’ve got to be a little bit careful.

“And that’s why they’re exploring a lot of options at the moment.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments

We believe that Newcastle fans will be delighted to hear that the club are looking at attacking additions this season, with the club having just Chris Wood and Callum Wilson as their only two out-and-out strikers as it stands.

Howe’s side only scored 44 goals in the Premier League last season, ranking them 12th in the goal scoring department across the top-flight.

Therefore, we believe that PIF should be investing significant money in attacking additions this summer to give the side more of a cutting edge this season, in a bid to fire the side into the top-half of the Premier League table.
