Newcastle United defender Dan Burn is one of the most popular players in the Magpies dressing room.
That is according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news from St James’ Park.
Burn joined Newcastle from Brighton & Hove Albion for £13m in January, and the 30-year-old has become a regular feature in Eddie Howe’s side since he made the move to his boyhood club.
The 6ft 6in centre-back has made 20 appearances for the Magpies since signing earlier this year and had played every minute of Premier League action this season before being hooked just after the hour mark against Wolves.
Downie believes that head coach Howe is a big admirer of Burn’s attitude and that the defender is a popular member of the Newcastle squad.
Speaking prior to their draw at Molineux, where Burn featured at left-back for a third time this season, he said: “He’s been very impressive.
“I think he’s actually quicker than he looks. I think just because he’s such a big guy, people think he may not be that quick.
“But I think he showed that the weekend up against some of these fleet-footed Man City players that he’s got plenty of pace.
“I know for a fact the manager really likes his attitude. He says he’s one of the most popular guys in the dressing room.
“He’s obviously a local lad as well, so he brings that to the table, he knows what it means and what it’s all about.”
TIF Thoughts on Downie’s comments…
We believe that Newcastle fans will be delighted to hear that Burn, who has been an exceptionally solid performer since his January signing, is a highly rated member of Howe’s squad.
The Blyth-born defender achieved an average SofaScore rating of 6.98 for his Premier League performances last season, ranking him as the third-best performer of Howe’s squad across the season.
Therefore, we think it comes as no surprise that Howe thinks so highly of Burn, with the former Wigan Athletic man being a figure of consistency since his arrival on Tyneside earlier in the year.
