Newcastle United could make a move for a central midfielder before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

That is according to journalist Dean Jones, who was speaking to GiveMeSport about the latest transfer news surrounding the Magpies heading into the final days of the transfer window.

Despite having made four permanent additions to the side, the club have been unable to welcome any central midfielders to the squad so far this summer.

However, having signed Real Sociedad and Sweden striker Alexander Isak for a fee of around £60m, the club may now be able to turn their attention to making an addition in the centre of the park.

And Jones believes that there is still a decent chance that Newcastle will make a midfield addition before the conclusion of the transfer window.

He said: “Throughout the summer, I’ve been told that there’s still a probable scenario where they bid for a central midfielder as well.

“So, I’m not going to rule that out.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

We believe that given the nature of the Magpies’ transfer window – their midfield is the only place in which they have yet to make an addition – if they could sign a player who’s likely to improve the side in the middle of the park, Howe can be satisfied with the club’s work in the market this summer.

The Tyneside club have been linked with interest in a loan move for Chelsea and England midfielder Conor Gallagher this summer if the west London club would be interested in letting the 22-year-old leave Stamford Bridge on a temporary basis again.

We think that PIF’s main focus over the remaining days of the transfer window should be to try and bring in a quality first-team midfield addition, which could improve Newcastle and Howe’s chances of potentially finishing in a European spot this season.
