Newcastle United would pin their hopes on getting the best out of Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi, if they were to land the winger at St. James’ Park this summer.
That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest Magpies transfer news, heading into the final two weeks of the transfer window.
Newcastle are understood to have registered an interest in Hudson-Odoi this summer, but will face competition from the likes of Leicester City and Southampton for his signature, as well as other clubs from across Europe.
According to ChronicleLive, head coach Eddie Howe would like a new right-winger at the club this season, and has indicated that he wouldn’t be against using the loan market this summer.
And O’Rourke believes that if the club were to acquire the services of Hudson-Odoi this summer, he would be a “big addition” to the Tyneside club.
“I think Hudson-Odoi on his day can be as good as anybody, as an attacking winger in the Premier League.
“That’s something Newcastle would hope they could pin their hopes on, that if they could land him could be a real big addition to the side.”
TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments
We believe that Newcastle fans would agree with O’Rourke in the sense that Hudson-Odoi would likely be a big part of the side if he was to sign for the club, even if it was only on a season-long loan.
The 21-year-old winger averaged a SofaScore rating of 6.91 for his Premier League performances last season, averaging a total of just 64 minutes per game for the 15 appearances he made, suggesting that the winger would need minutes at St. James’ Park to get up to full match fitness this season.
However, we still think that Hudson-Odoi would be an excellent addition to Howe’s side, and could be the catalyst in firing the club to a top-half, or even European placed finish this season.
