According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Newcastle United should look to raid MLS and bring in FC Cincinnati starlet Brandon Vazquez this summer as the youngster has impressed for the American side.

With the summer transfer window entering the last few weeks, teams will start to scramble to sign players in positions of need before the window slams shut.

One team that could fall into this trap is Newcastle, as they have struggled to sign a new striker to challenge current frontman Callum Wilson. However, Jacobs believes that they could look to the United States to find their target, and suggests that 23-year-old striker Vazquez could be the answer, amid interest from fellow Premier League side Leeds United.

Jacobs told Steve Wraith on NUFC Matters: “There’s some good players out there in MLS as well on the younger side that Newcastle could sign up and loan back, and then potentially look at in a year or two. Vazquez is one at Cincinnati to keep an eye on – I mentioned that Leeds were looking at him.”

TIF Thoughts on Vazquez to Newcastle…

The Magpies need to add depth and youth to the striker position as both Wilson and Chris Wood are now 30, while the former has had a recent stint of injuries which has made him unreliable to last the season.

While Vazquez is completely unproven at Premier League level, he is just 23 and has picked up 15 goals and four assists in just 24 MLS games so far this season. Meanwhile, according to Fbref, currently ranks in the 94th percentile for non-penalty goals compared to forwards in the MLS over the past year.

It has been reported Vazquez could cost just $5m (£4.12m) to bring to England, which we feel would be a risk-free and affordable signing to Newcastle’s owners that could end up being very fruitful if he is developed properly under Eddie Howe.
