Newcastle United are still interested in RB Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko this summer as they continue their search for a new striker.

This has been suggested by insider Ryan Taylor, who has been discussing Dan Ashworth’s striker pursuit on his YouTube channel.

It has been a mixed summer of transfer business on Tyneside with three permanent additions in through the door, but all three are defensive options.

The Toon have been linked with the likes of Armando Broja already this summer but have seen their efforts go cold, with Chelsea holding on to the player amid their own transfer issues.

There is now just a matter of weeks remaining in the window and Taylor believes Sesko is a player who the Magpies have spoken about.

He said: “Benjamin Sesko is another player that remains of interest to Newcastle, as well. I think they’ve held talks with his representative on Tyneside, but there is plenty of interest in Sesko, with Manchester United and Tottenham also among those monitoring his situation.”

TIF Thoughts on Taylor’s comments…

It does feel as if Eddie Howe’s side will have a huge challenge on their hands if they are serious about bringing the Slovenian striker to Tyneside.

The 19-year-old, who German pundit Marcel Reif called ‘crazy’ on BILD TV, is gaining the interest of the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United this summer, with the two clubs told of his £45m valuation.

However, we do think Ashworth needs to act fairly quickly to bring in a new striker with the new campaign now just days away and the duo of Callum Wilson and Chris Wood still their only options up top.
