Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Newcastle United now must decide whether or not to commit to the Joao Pedro transfer.

The Brazilian forward had been heavily linked with a move to the Magpies in recent days, and at one point looked almost certain to join them – with Romano even giving it the ‘here we go’ treatment.

However, with Newcastle now signing Alexander Isak for a reported fee of £59m, it seems as though there is some considerable doubt over whether or not the Watford man will be leaving his club.

While talking about the situation on his YouTube channel, Romano explained that a deal was ‘almost agreed’ for Pedro earlier this week, but it remains unclear as to whether or not it will be completed.

He said: “Now it’s up to them to decide on Joao Pedro that was almost agreed on Monday. But now it’s up to Newcastle to decide on that one.”

TIF thoughts on Joao Pedro and Newcastle…

Having just spent so much money on another forward in Isak, it will be interesting to see if Eddie Howe still wants another attacking player – especially when they already have the likes of Chris Wood and Callum Wilson able to play in that part of the pitch.

However, Pedro does offer some versatility and can operate down the middle, on either flank, or even a little deeper in an attacking midfield role.

With that in mind, Newcastle may well feel as though there is space to accommodate Isak and Pedro in the same team – and they certainly have the money to splash if they want to. So, it looks as though the ball is in the Magpies’ court for now.
