Keith Downie, of Sky Sports, has claimed that Newcastle United could have a ‘frantic’ end to the transfer window following some injury concerns.
The Magpies have enjoyed a promising window so far, with most recent arrival Alexander Isak the headline act whilst Sven Botman, Nick Pope, and Matt Targett also arrived.
According to the Daily Express, however, they might not be done there, with Joao Pedro, Conor Gallagher, and Christian Pulisic all linked with a potential move to Tyneside.
Downie also believes that Newcastle could have a busy end to the window, telling GiveMeSport:
“Just a little thing I picked up this morning – I just feel it might be a little bit more frantic than perhaps what I thought a couple of weeks ago, because, obviously there are scans and a couple of injuries that the players have got that may change things somewhat. But we wait on the outcome of those results first.”
TIF Thoughts on Downie’s comments…
Downie’s comments are certainly interesting, considering the reported £63 million just spent on Isak. Yet, it seems as though Eddie Howe could still welcome more arrivals before the end of the transfer window. The Magpies have just one week to get any further deals over the line, and with time running out, we’d have to agree with Downie’s ‘frantic’ claim.
Newcastle have had an impressive start to the season, with a win over Nottingham Forest, before a draw against Brighton & Hove Albion, and a thrilling 3-3 draw against champions Manchester City.
Up next for Howe’s side is a trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers, where they will look to extend their unbeaten run at the start of the current campaign to five games after Wednesday’s cup win. We may even get the chance to see Isak in a Newcastle shirt for the first time, as the big-money arrival looks to make an instant impact.
