According to Ben Jacobs, fans should keep an eye on a possible move for Brentford’s star Ivan Toney, despite the fact that Newcastle United fans do not want him back.

While the Magpies have been linked to a number of high-profile targets this summer, they could end up looking closer to home in the Premier League to solve their problems in the forward area, with Brentford star, Toney.

While there have not been a lot of links to the striker, Jacobs believes a possible deal between the two Premier League sides is one to watch, but claims fans of the Tyneside club do not want their former youngster back.

Jacobs told Steve Wraith, “I know that Newcastle fans don’t want Ivan Toney back. But I’ve said throughout the window that that’s loosely speaking, one to watch as well”. (15:54)

TIF Thought on Toney to Newcastle…

While fans may not want to see a return for the 26-year-old striker, there is no doubt he would be a huge pickup and would significantly improve their attacking options for next season if they were to get a deal done.

Toney impressed last season in the Premier League for Brentford, bagging 14 goals and six assists in all competitions while ranking in the 88th percentile for aerials duels won and the 84th percentile for progressive passes per game compared to other forwards in Europe’s top five leagues.

It has been reported the Bees are looking for at least £40m for their star man, and while that seems a lot of money for a player who has only played one season in the top flight, he has a lot of room to grow and has already shown he can score a bundle of goals and improve a side looking to break into the top ten.
