According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Newcastle United will have the chance to sign Armando Broja this summer, but still, face competition from the likes of West Ham United and Everton.

The Magpies are still looking for a striker this summer after missing out on Hugo Ekitike to Paris Saint-Germain, and have seemingly been rejected by Chelsea’s Timo Werner, who would prefer a move back to Red Bull Leipzig.

However, one forward they are interested in bringing in is Chelsea’s Broja and despite the London club not wanting to lose the player on a permanent deal this summer, Jacobs believes they can still get their man.

Jacobs told NUFC Matters, “Broja is a more realistic possibility. We saw when Chelsea spoke to West Ham United that they weren’t interested in a permanent sale. Broja wants clarity though, over his future and he was the one really driving a move out of Stamford Bridge.

“So, if Chelsea get in an attacker, then at that point, they might be more open to a permanent sale for Broja. Everton are the other club that had been tracking him. There’s also a possibility the more and more the window goes on that Broja gets persuaded to be loaned out somewhere once again.

“I still don’t think that’s his preference, but if Tuchel can persuade Broja that in a year’s time he’ll be more integral to Chelsea, then he might be persuaded as he did when he went to Southampton to take another loan deal.

“So that one’s still up in the air, but absolutely not impossible that Broja on a loan or a permanent deal to Newcastle could come off. West Ham even though they’ve got Scamacca are still tracking him and their interest hasn’t ended”. (14:00)

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

TIF Thoughts on Jacobs’ comments…

It is understandable why Chelsea are not looking to lose Broja on a permanent deal due to their recent loss of young stars including Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori, and possibly before they bring in a better replacement this summer.

However, if they do find another striker to sign, Newcastle would be a great destination for Broja. He would be guaranteed a lot of game time as Chris Wood and Callum Wilson are both older and the latter has faced injury issues recently.

He would also benefit the Magpies as he is only 20 and therefore has a lot of time to develop and he already has a season of Premier League experience under his belt as he picked up nine goals in all competitions for Southampton last season.

They will face competition from West Ham and Everton, but the Hammers have recently signed Gianluca Scamacca and with the current state of Everton, it is hard to see how they would be a more attractive proposition than the Tyneside club.
