Newcastle United right-back, Emil Krafth, picked up a serious knock during the side’s Carabao Cup game against Tranmere and according to Sky Sports contributor, Ben Dinnery, it does not look good.

The injuries do not stop on Tyneside as Dan Burn, Jamal Lascelles, and Krafth have all picked up knocks in the last few weeks, with the latter picking up a lower leg injury that could keep him out for an extended amount of time.

Manager Eddie Howe revealed the player was in a great deal of pain after being stretchered off during their trip to Tranmere, while Dinnery believes this could leave him out for while and wishes him the best in his recovery.

Dinnery said on the Premier FPL Injuries podcast, “Emil Krafth, that does look a little bit more serious, picked up that lower leg injury during the first half, around a 38-minute stretchered off. Eddie Howe said he was in a great deal of pain. So that didn’t look great for the Newcastle fullbacks, and we wish him well”. (5:26)

TIF Thoughts on Krafth’s injury…

The Swedish right-back has not enjoyed the most successful time since he joined the club back in August 2019, picking up just 20 appearances in the Premier League last season, and in total just 64 appearances for Newcastle across all competitions since he arrived.

Starting against Tranmere was a great opportunity to show Howe he is still an important member of the squad and can deserve to be a part of their future plans. However, picking up this injury so early in the game means it is going to be incredibly difficult for him to prove himself.

The Magpies are closing in on the top six this season and once they break into Europe they are going to attract some of the biggest names in world football in all positions. While Krafth has shown himself to be serviceable, he is easily replaced and his injury will only hurt his chances of remaining at the club.
