Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United could make a move to sign Odysseas Vlachodimos in the coming days.

At the moment, it seems the Red Devils are in the market for a new goalkeeper. Indeed, recent reports have suggested that the club have been scouting Yann Sommer, while Tim Krul is even said to be an option.

However, trusted transfer reporter Romano has been able to name Benfica shot-stopper Vlachodimos as another possible target for United – although they could face stiff competition for his signature from Ajax.

Talking about the matter on his YouTube channel, Romano explained: “Vlachodimos, the goalkeeper from Benfica, he’s attracting interest from Ajax, from Manchester United.

“And so Vlachodimos could be an opportunity for Manchester United or Ajax in the next days. But it depends on the price, because it’s never easy to negotiate with Benfica.”

TIF Thoughts on Odysseas Vlachodimos and Manchester United…

At 28 years of age, the Greece international has 27 caps for his country as well as 174 appearances for Benfica – keeping 68 clean sheets in that time – so he would arrive with plenty of experience.

And considering current United No 1 David de Gea has come under great scrutiny in the early stages of the Premier League season already, it would be no shock if Erik ten Hag was looking out for a fresh option between the sticks.

However, as Romano makes clear, this deal won’t be easy, with Benfica difficult to negotiate with and Ajax also interested in Vlachodimos. Even so, this looks like it could be a deal to keep an eye out for over the coming days as the Red Devils continue on their hunt for a new goalkeeper.
