Mark Goldbridge has claimed that he believes Manchester United have an agreement in place to sign Frenkie de Jong this summer.

Frenkie de Jong has been on the radar of Manchester United for the entirety of the summer transfer window, but there has still not been any progression in terms of agreeing on a deal, and Chelsea are another Premier League club that are keen on signing the Dutch midfielder.

Barcelona have signed several players in this summer transfer window, that total to around £137m in transfer fees, so they might be looking to offload De Jong in order to get some of the money back.

Although there has been no official agreement announced for De Jong at United, Goldbridge spoke on The United Stand YouTube channel and claimed that he believes that the club and the player do have an agreement in place.

(5;53) “There has to be something behind three months of focusing on one player, and I don’t want to go over old ground, this is a player that we have spent three months trying to buy, we have been ridiculed by and our director of football and our CEO have gone to Barcelona for, and we have now got Chelsea wanting to buy, I now believe that Manchester United are confident and have an agreement with Frenkie De Jong,” Goldbridge said.

Do you think De Jong will sign for United?

TIF Thoughts on Goldbridge’s comments…

Although the De Jong saga has taken the best part of three months, he would be a suitable addition to Manchester United’s squad, due to Erik Ten Hag working with him previously so he is a player who will know the system and he is still just 25-years-old so he could be part of the long-term future of the club.

However, the Premier League season starts tomorrow night, so it is highly unlikely that he would join before the first set of fixtures has ended, and it might be labelled as a failed transfer window if they do not get him in the door, due to the amount of time that the saga has taken up.
