According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are discussing the possibility of signing Moises Caicedo before the end of the transfer window.

After bringing in the likes of Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez, the Red Devils have failed to secure the signings of some of their bigger targets, most notably Frenkie de Jong. As a result, the club are now looking for alternative signings.

One player they could look to fill this position is Brighton & Hove Albion youngster Caicedo, as the club are discussing the transfer ‘internally’, but according to Romano, it will not be easy as the south coast side are desperate to keep him.

Speaking earlier this week, Romano claimed on his YouTube channel: “Moises Caicedo is a name that I called yesterday [Tuesday] as a possibility for Manchester United. Not an easy one with Brighton because they would love to keep the player, but Caicedo is one of the players that Manchester United are discussing internally, alongside Cody Gakpo.”

TIF Thoughts on Caicedo to United…

With their disastrous start to the 2022/23 Premier League season, United desperately need to improve the squad, especially in the midfield, as current duo Fred and Scott McTominay have shown they are not good enough to take the team to the next level – while a deep-lying Eriksen had little effect on his return to west London last weekend.

While he has not featured in the top-flight much so far in his career, Caicedo has shown glimpses of being a top-quality midfielder, especially defensively. After having made just eight appearances in the top-flight last season, he ranked in the 86th percentile for clearances, in the 84th for tackles and in the 78th for touches in the attacking penalty area.

Having shown this ability already, there is no telling what he could achieve under a manager like Erik ten Hag and with an entire season of experience under his belt. While he may not cause the level of impact a player like De Jong could have, he is one for the future and an exciting prospect at just 20 years of age.
