According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United know they could possibly sign PSV starlet Cody Gakpo this summer – but they have not made an official bid for the winger yet.

After their disastrous start to the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, the Red Devils are looking to bolster their attacking options with links to the likes of Antony and Christian Pulisic.

However, having made progress in talks for experienced midfielder Casemiro, a promising starlet the side could look to sign is Gakpo, who has impressed during his time at Dutch giants PSV, and according to Romano, the club know there is a possibility to bring him in.

Romano claimed on his YouTube channel: “They have Cody Gakpo on the list, Christian Pulisic on the list as [a] winger, so they have many names. Gakpo is a different kind of option, they can do it, they know that it’s a potential opportunity, but [there is] still not an official bid to PSV.”

TIF Thoughts on Cody Gakpo to Manchester United…

After their horrific season in front of goal during the 2021/22 campaign, in which only two players bagged over 10 goals in all competitions, United need to bring in someone who is a proven goalscorer while being a player for the future.

Gakpo, who won the Eredivisie’s Golden Shoe award last term, fits this bill perfectly. The Dutch starlet is just 23 years old and last season picked up an incredible 21 goals and 15 assists in all competitions for PSV, while playing in multiple positions across the frontline.

It has been reported that Gakpo is valued around the £35m mark by his Dutch team. In today’s market, getting a player of his ability and potential for that price could be considered an absolute steal, and considering the Red Devils reportedly offered €80m (£68m) for Antony, who picked up fewer goals and assists than Gakpo last season, it feels like the PSV star could be the better move.
