According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United will face competition for the signature of Benajmin Sesko from RB Salzburg.
After the news that Cristiano Ronaldo is looking to leave the club this summer, United will potentially be left with only Anthony Martial as a recognised first-team striker, and the club are therefore looking to bring someone in before the end of the window.
This man looks to be Sesko from Salzburg, however, according to Romano, the Red Devils are set to face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea, as the club have held talks with his agent and Sesko is due to have a meeting with his family and agent to decide where his future lies in the coming days.
Romano told his YouTube channel: “Chelsea had a meeting with the agent of Benjamin Sesko. I told you it’s an open race, because many clubs are interested. Manchester United are leading the race since more than one week because they had more than one meeting with the agent of Sesko.
“So, they are really pushing, but [it is] still not agreed on [the] player’s and Salzburg’s side, so it’s an open race. Chelsea had a meeting because they’re exploring the strikers market. Let’s see, because there is also another club, so it’s a three-club race for Benjamin Sesko.
“Let’s see what the player will decide in a meeting with his family, with his agent, because it’s up to the player to decide the future club and then to negotiate with Salzburg, so keep an eye on Sesko in the next days.”
TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…
If Ronaldo does end up leaving this summer, United will need to bring in a striker as soon as possible in order to help replace the Portuguese legend’s 24 goals in all competitions last season, and Sesko could be a good pick-up for now and the future.
However, they will have to battle it out with Chelsea, as after losing Romelu Lukaku and possibly Timo Werner, the west London club are also looking for a striker – and given they’ve already held talks with Sesko’s agent, they look to be a serious contender for his signature.
It is not surprising the 19-year-old has garnered so much interest, as he impressed at Salzburg last season with 10 goals and seven assists in all competitions, while he has managed two goals and one assist in three games so far this term.
The Slovenian is certainly a talent to keep your eyes on for the future. He has the chance to start often for United if Ronaldo goes, but he has the opportunity of playing Champions League at Chelsea. Either way, he has the chance to become an important figure for a Premier League giant.
