TalkSport’s Darren Bent has recently claimed Conor Gallagher would be a perfect signing for Manchester United this summer for his mentality and dedication to the game.
The Red Devils are desperate to bring in a midfielder before the end of the window as they have missed out on top target Frenkie de Jong, but now look set to complete a deal for 30-year-old Real Madrid star Casemiro.
However, Bent believes the club should be looking to build their squad another way and insists that youngster Gallagher would be the perfect fit for the club, rather than splashing the cash on superstar after superstar.
Bent told TalkSport: “At some stage, you’ve got to stop signing just superstar names and going right, he’s a superstar, he’s a good player, bring him into the dressing room. Surely, you’ve got to do your due diligence, look at the character of the player, you know what I mean because that’s the most important.
“The mentality of the player… They were talking about Conor Gallagher at United. He’s someone you talk about his mentality, his dedication to playing football, his attitude, his hunger. He would be perfect.”

While spending big on a superstar and proven winner like Casemiro might seem like the best thing to do for the squad this season, the Brazilian midfielder is 30 years old and therefore does not have the longevity that Gallagher has.
While Gallagher has very limited experience at the top flight under his belt, he proved last season that he is capable of playing with the best as he picked up eight goals and five assists while ranking in the 96th percentile for non-penalty goals, 93rd for touches in the attacking penalty area and pressures, and the 80th for shot-creating actions.
Casemiro seems like a quick fix to a long-term problem for United, and as Bent said, just adding superstars to this team has not worked so far. So, bringing in a player like Gallagher who has shown his class but still has a lot to prove would bring a new dimension to this team that has failed to impress for years.
