Journalist Dean Jones has claimed on The Done Deal Show that Liverpool are holding out to sign Jude Bellingham.

Liverpool’s need for a new midfielder has been a topic of discussion, particularly after their poor start to the season which has seen them not win a single game in the Premier League and Klopp deploying a midfield three of Harvey Elliott, James Milner and Jordan Henderson in their most recent clash.

That midfield trio was simply not good enough on Monday evening against Manchester United as they were beaten in a 2-1 defeat, and while Naby Keita and Thiago are out injured, a move for someone new could be on the cards.

They have long been linked with a move for Bellingham, although that appears to be one for the future – and one Jones believes Klopp will hold out for.

He said: “It’s kind of ridiculous that they are having to even play James Milner and Harvey Elliott then decide who else can fit in there. So it’s a strange one, but obviously, the players that Liverpool would look to sign in that position aren’t available at the moment, and they’re not just going to sign someone for the sake of it.

Do Liverpool need to sign a new midfielder?

Yes!

“Thiago was kind of a one-off when he came in because Klopp identified him at the time. He didn’t think they really needed him, but he was like, ‘we can get this player’ and they got him through the door.

“Jude Bellingham would be the one that Liverpool would really want in this area of the field. There’s no doubt that they are waiting for Jude Bellingham’s situation to open up, and that is not happening at the moment.

“Because of that, Jurgen Klopp’s going to be patient, I think, and just wait for that to happen – unless he’s presented with something that’s just too good to turn down in these last few days of the window.”

Which flop signed with Luis Suarez?

It’s no surprise that Liverpool and Klopp are so keen on landing Bellingham, as at such a young age, he is already a crucial player for Borussia Dortmund as a box-to-box midfielder, while he also frequently features in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Given his ability to play in several different positions in midfield, Klopp may well see him as a successor to Jordan Henderson, who is now 32 years old and has seen his minutes fluctuate over the last few Premier League seasons.

However, with Dortmund losing star striker Erling Haaland earlier in the summer to Manchester City, it’s extremely unlikely that they will even consider sanctioning a sale of Bellingham in the same window, however, a move in the windows to come can’t be ruled out.
