It has been claimed that Leicester City are trying to open negotiations with James Maddison over a new deal.

Maddison has been on the radar of several Premier League clubs this summer, with the Foxes rejecting a £50m bid for their English midfielder earlier this month, as they believe he is worth more than that and are not fond of the idea of letting him go.

With Leicester attempting to fend off suitors such as Newcastle United for Maddison this summer, noted insider ExWHUemployee has spoken on The Transfer Show and claimed that they are trying to open negotiations with him over putting pen to paper on a new deal.

He said: “Leicester are trying to open negotiations for a new contract for James Maddison. He has been linked with a move away this summer, as have half of their players, but it looks like they are going to try and get him on a new deal.”

TIF Thoughts on Ex’s comments…

Leicester have not got off to the best start this season in the Premier League after drawing on the opening day against Brentford and losing 4-2 last weekend against Arsenal, meaning they have picked up one point from a possible six.

Maddison might see this and think that he can do better, while he has already notched a goal and an assist in the opening fortnight, so he could be keen to hold off signing a new contract, as he already has two years remaining on his current deal.

The Foxes have not brought in a single outfield player this summer, as they have evidently focused on keeping their key men, but not signing anyone might not sit well with those at the club as it shows a lack of ambition and desire to improve.
