Journalist Ben Jacobs recently shared his doubts over Leicester City potentially selling star striker Jamie Vardy and doesn’t believe the club have an imminent replacement.

So far this summer, Leicester have been one of the more disappointing clubs in the transfer market, as they have sold goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and have a number of stars including Youri Tielemans, James Maddison and Wesley Fofana linked with moves away, while failing to secure any top signings themselves.

Another player who has recently been linked with a possible departure is Vardy, who has long been instrumental in the club’s success, most notably in their Premier League title win and their subsequent Champions League campaign.

Luckily for fans, Jacobs believes the club will not sell their 35-year-old striker and believes he could even sign a new one-year extension as the club do not have an immediate replacement for him in the squad.

Speaking on Newcastle United podcast NUFC Matters, Jacobs said: “I don’t think they’ll sell Vardy, I think he’ll end up leaving on his own terms. I know there’s some speculative links with Manchester United – nothing in that at the moment.

“If anything, Vardy might get a one-year contract extension at Leicester. But there has to be that long-term strategy to find a solution to Jamie Vardy, and at the moment, it isn’t 100% Iheanacho or somebody like an Ayoze Perez. So yeah, they’re going to have to find somebody to replace Vardy, but I don’t think that is an imminent signing.”

TIF Thoughts on Jacobs’ comments…

With the rumours circulating over the possible departures of Tielemans, Maddison and Fofana, adding their top Premier League goalscorer to that list would surely be a huge mistake, especially considering they have no replacement planned.

While Manchester United could use a goalscorer with his proficiency, the Foxes are also in desperate need of him, as he bagged 17 goals in 33 games across all competitions, which was only bettered by Maddison, who got 18 in 53 appearances last term.

It would not be surprising if the club’s hierarchy are tempted if a significant offer comes in for the ageing striker, but with the limited time left in the window to find a suitable replacement, it feels like a disaster that could leave them in a vulnerable position this season.

Therefore, it surely be a huge relief for Foxes fans to hear this latest claim from Jacobs.
