Wesley Fofana’s exit from Leicester City is very likely according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 21-year-old has become the subject of interest at Chelsea with the club launching a £60m bid to acquire the Foxes’ centre-back.

The offer was however, rejected by Leicester (L’Equipe via Fabrizio Romano) but the Blues are thought to be readying a new proposal for the defensive starlet.

Thomas Tuchel would like to bring another centre-back to Stamford Bridge despite the arrival of Kalidou Koulibaly in west London.

Brendan Rodgers has told Fofana himself that he is not for sale but the player is ‘intent’ on leaving should a ‘reasonable’ approach be made.

As reported by Ben Jacobs Chelsea are thought to be preparing a £70m bid all in for the France U21 international but only an £80m offer will ignite negotiations.

Nonetheless, O’Rourke still believes that the central defender will indeed depart.

Speaking on the American radio station SiriusXM FC Football Show he said:

(0:17) “I think there’s a real good possibility that this deal will get over the line.
“Obviously Chelsea have gone in there made a bit around £60m which was rejected by Leicester. Leicester are kings of the transfer window as seen in the past that they will ask for top dollar for their players.

“I think with Leicester seemingly needing funds into the building before they can make any signings I think when push comes to shove I fully expect (slight inaudible here) Fofana to go to Chelsea.

TIF Thoughts on Fofana and Leicester…

Do you think Fofana will leave Leicester?

Yes

Yes

No

No

With Youri Tielemans heavily linked with a move to Arsenal all summer and question marks surrounding the future of James Maddison on top of Kasper Schmeichel’s exit this certainly is a worry for Leicester.

The Foxes signed Fofana as a 19-year-old two years ago and has gone on to make 50 appearances for the club after recovering from a fibula fracture which kept him out for the best part of a year.

He has been compared to Virgil Van Dijk and Rio Ferdinand for his quality by Jamie Redknapp but it could be that Leicester are helpless and are ultimately forced to part ways although £80m would surely soften the blow.
