Image for Leeds United: VAR footage shows potential error from victory against Wolves

Leeds United fans may be furious having seen the footage of the coming together between Jose Sa and Rasmus Kristensen in the penalty area this weekend.

The Whites sealed their first three points of the season on Saturday in their Premier League opener against Wolves with a 2-1 victory.

A goal from Rodrigo was then added to by an own goal from Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri to see Jesse Marsch’s side turn around the scoreline, having gone behind in the first six minutes.

However, some fans may feel the result should have been made more comfortable after the Wolves goalkeeper collided with their new right-back inside the Wolves box.

With a free-kick floated into the Wolves area, Kristensen won the header before being clattered into by the Portuguese goalkeeper, leaving the Danish defender on the floor, footage of which was shared on Twitter.

TIF Thoughts on the footage…

The incident went to VAR and official Jarred Gillett decided against awarding Marsch’s men a penalty despite Sa not getting a touch on the ball and clattering into Kristensen.

Did VAR get this decision wrong?

No

No

So we think Leeds fans can feel very hard done by after seeing this footage in what ended up being a close affair in Yorkshire which could have ended differently without some fine stops from Illan Meslier.

Had VAR awarded Leeds with the penalty, not only would it have provided them with the opportunity to add another goal, but it could well have put Sa’s time on the pitch under doubt.
