Leeds United: Phil Hay believes that people behind the scenes are currently very happy

Phil Hay has claimed that people behind the scenes at Leeds United are happy with the club’s transfer business and their start to the season.

Leeds were brought crashing back down to earth on Saturday afternoon after their incredible result the weekend before, as they were beaten for the first time in the Premier League this season.

Despite this latest setback, Leeds are still sitting very pretty inside the top five of the Premier League and their fine start is a testament to Jesse Marsch and the way he’s managed to turn around the club’s fortunes relatively quickly.

But while some fans may be desperate for a new left-back or striker to arrive as the transfer window ticks down, Hay has recently confirmed on The Phil Hay Show that people at Leeds are happy with everything at the club as things stand.

He said: “I think they look like the sort of side who shouldn’t regularly be getting beaten by three, four or five goals, I don’t really expect that to happen very often. And I think again, it still amounts to a pretty decent start – seven points from four games – I think they’ll be pretty content with that.

“I get the sense when I speak to people at the club when they go through the numbers and they’re looking at the stats so far, they feel like the stats and the numbers are in their favour.

“They think they point to a good summer; they think they point to a decent bit of progress in the games that have been played already.”

TIF Thoughts on Leeds’ current position…

Leeds have certainly backed Marsch this summer with seven new arrivals, which have seemingly offset the losses of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, with results suggesting they could still have a good season without the once-key duo.

However, the obvious areas of weakness are at left-back – Junior Firpo is the only natural one at the club – and at striker, where Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt the only senior ones at the club, with Sam Greenwood seemingly favoured more as a central midfielder under Marsch.

And all it takes is an injury to Rodrigo and stand-in left-back Pascal Struijk for things to potentially fall apart, so we feel that further additions wouldn’t go amiss at Elland Road despite their promising start.
