Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Raphael Guerreiro is one of the names that has been mentioned at Leeds United.

Leeds are in desperate need of a left-back, as Stuart Dallas and Junior Firpo are both sidelined due to injury, which has meant that Pascal Struijk has had to play at left-back in the opening two Premier League fixtures of the season.

Manchester City were one of the sides linked to Guerreiro this summer, but they turned their attention to Sergio Gomez, who was brought into the club after they failed to sign Marc Cucurella.

With Leeds on the hunt for a new left-back, Jones spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that Guerreiro’s name was one that has been mentioned, but there are also a few other names that have been brought up as potential targets at Elland Road.

He said: “Raphael Guerreiro’s a name I’ve heard mentioned. There are a few that they’re looking at. It might be that they end up doing a loan or something from one of Europe’s bigger clubs once they know that there are people that don’t fit into the plans elsewhere.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Leeds have made seven signings this summer, but none of those players occupy the left-back role, which arguably was a position they needed to upgrade even with Firpo fit given his start to life in the Premier League, so Jesse Marsch might be keen to get someone in that area of the pitch through the door before the transfer window shuts.

Guerreiro could be a good option for Leeds as he has bags of experience playing at the top level and has made 34 appearances in the Champions League for Borussia Dortmund – but this could also mean that they are priced out of a deal for a player of his quality.

However, the Portuguese left-back does have just one year left on his contract with the German side, so they might be keen to either tie him down to a new deal or cash in on him this summer, which could bolster Marsch’s chances of signing him.
