Journalist Beren Cross has outlined just how impressed he was by Sonny Perkins after the Leeds United youngster scored again for the Under-21s.

Earlier this week, the club’s U21 team took on Nottingham Forest in a Premier League 2 Division Two clash at Thorp Arch. In the end, the home team cruised to an easy victory, winning 5-1.

And it seems as though Perkins was at the very heart of things as he scored Leeds‘ third goal of the day, driving the ball into the back of the net with his left foot from the edge of the box.

In reaction to the moment of real quality, Cross wrote on LeedsLive, titling his post ‘Another Perkins special’.

He wrote: “Excellent counter-pressing from Leeds denies Forest the chance to clear the danger from their box. Ball sits up nicely for Perkins, who lashes it into the far corner from the left of goal.”

TIF Thoughts on Sonny Perkins and Leeds…

It’s interesting to note that this sort of goal is already becoming a ‘Perkins special’ in the eyes of Cross. This was also picked up by fellow journalist Joe Donnohue, who wrote on Twitter that this sort of finish is ‘quickly becoming a trademark’.

Considering the 18-year-old only arrived from West Ham United in the summer – signing a three-year-deal with the Whites after his contract with the Hammers expired – it’s fair to say he’s already making a big impact at Leeds.

Indeed, he now has five goals in his first four academy appearances and looks to be impressing a number of journalists. In Cross’ player ratings after the game, he stated that Perkins ‘really looks too good for this level already’, so it seems only a matter of time before the talented teen gets a chance at senior level.
