Journalist Graham Smyth has urged Leeds United to sign Zito Luvumbo after he scored a fine goal against them in a pre-season friendly.

In preparation for the fast-approaching Premier League season, the Whites took on Cagliari over the weekend and cruised to a 6-2 win – with Rodrigo, Patrick Bamford and Robin Koch getting their names on the scoresheet.

And while the victory looked comfortable in the end, it seems as if one opposition player caused enough trouble to leave a pretty good impression on Smyth.

Indeed, 20-year-old Luvumbo scored his side’s second goal of the game when he picked up the ball just inside Leeds’ half and carried it for about 30 yards before blasting it past Illan Meslier with real venom.

In reaction to the player’s fine display, Smyth took to Twitter to say that he should ‘pop along to Thorp Arch’ and ‘sign a contract’ instead of heading back to Italy.

He wrote: “Zito Luvumbo should take his time going back to Sardinia. Stick around for a bit, enjoy Leeds. Take the Water Taxi. Visit the Royal Armouries. Pop along to Thorp Arch for a kickabout. Sign a contract, whatever.”

TIF Thoughts on Zito Luvumbo and Leeds…

Still only 20 years of age, the winger already has six international appearances for his country Angola. On top of that, he scored nine goals and provided five assists in 17 Italian youth league games last season.

Looking at stats like that, it’s easy to see why some may feel as if Luvumbo has the potential to become a top player, and he certainly passed the eye test when Smyth watched him against Leeds.

He’s not the only one, either. Indeed, journalist Beren Cross said the winger made Koch look as if he was ‘running through treacle’ when he tried to tackle Luvumbo shortly before his goal.
